Summary

The short story “Survivor Syndrome” by Liz Jensen follows Dimitri, a Greek photographer who is sent to London by his boss, Alexander. London has been flooded, which has caused a waterpox epidemic. Looking to take the perfect picture to capture the disaster, Dimitri describes what he sees in London, how the people have been affected, and how they try to cope.

Dimitri also meets Mr McLaverty, the caretaker of an old mill in a part of the city that has not been flooded. One day, Dimitri learns that Mr McLaverty is building a boat in preparation for a time when the city will be completely flooded. He also notices a blond boy who waves at them from a housing complex. 

After a while, London is quarantined because of the epidemic, and nobody is allowed to leave. However, Dimitri ...
