Arnold Schwarzenegger's speech was delivered on 31st of August, 2004 at the Republican National Convention, organized to nominate George W. Bush for a second term as US President.

The 2004 Republican National Convention lasted for four days and was organized at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The official theme of the event was ‘Fulfilling America's Promise by Building a Safer World and a More Hopeful America.’

The choice of location was daring, because New York is generally a Democratic state—most of the people in this state typically vote for the Democratic Party. However, the time of the Convention was well-chosen, because it was only a week before the three-year commemoration of the 9/11 terrorist attacks (which happened in New York). Given George W. Bush’s War on Terror-approach —despite growing American criticism—the choice of date was more likely to get him more support on the War on Terror.

In the elections, George W. Bush competed against Democratic nominee John Kerry.
