Title
The title of the short story “She’s the Bomb” by T. Coraghessan Boyle has both a literal and a symbolic meaning.
In the literal sense, the title is a direct reference to the bomb threat calls made by the main character. Hailey makes these calls to try to get away from the graduation event which makes her feel uncomfortable and anxious. The word “bomb” is mentioned in the text several times, first when Hailey texts about what she has done (l. 69) and then in the dean’s speech (l. 83). When her plan does not work out as she hoped, Hailey states that “You know what, i wish i did have a bomb” (l. 119). Since there is no real bomb, the title refers to Hailey’s direct actions, as she herself represents a threat to the smooth continuation of the event.
