Beginning

The short film begins in medias res, showing Hasan in a bathroom, fixing his hair before going towards his bedroom. His father’s voice can be heard asking, in Hindi, where the remote is. Middle

In the rising action, Hasan is riding his bike through the suburbs. He stops in a parking lot and locks his bike. The scene which shows him carefully locking his bike is unusually long (02:24-02:36), which foreshadows the fact that something will happen to it.

Hasan then enters a supermarket, where he tries to decide which corsage to buy. The presence of a loud pair of white teenagers creates tension as it seems to startle Hasan briefly. Given that Hasan is later rejected by his date’s parents because of his ethnicity, the couple could also be a foreshadowing element for Hasan being confronted with prejudice.

Ending

In the falling action, Hasan is shown leaving but then seems to change his mind. He is shown on an alley, texting someone (07:59-08:03), which foreshadows him meeting Bethany in her backyard. Hasan compliments her appearance and gives her the corsage. A tension point is created as a remorseful Bethany apologises and goes back inside, while Hasan whispers that it is okay (09:25 – 09:32).
