Summary

The story “Pill Pusher” by Carolyn A. Drake begins with a tired narrator working at a pharmacy and instructing a woman to wait in line. The woman is very impatient and frustrated about having to wait.

The narrator looks at how the woman is dressed and how she behaves, forming a negative first impression. The narrator also thinks about her own disappointment about working in retail after obtaining a pharmacy degree. She feels guilty about selling medicines that are addictive, and she is anxious about her huge student debt.
