Summary

Tim Minchin begins his “Occasional Address” by recalling a conference set up by an accounting software company. He explains that the company had hired an ex-mountaineer to deliver an inspirational speech for the company’s employees, which he believes be an awkward and confusing experience for the participants. 

Minchin continues his speech by confessing that he is not an inspirational speaker, as he has never had a proper job and does not know what advice to give. He also says that his experience has provided him ideas for nine life lessons, which he then presents to the graduates.
