Literary perspective

The novel Mother to Mother by Sindiwe Magona can be considered a Postmodernist work of fiction. Postmodern literature often features an experimental style and fragmented, non-linear narratives. 

In the case of Mother to Mother, the novel is written in an epistolary format and has an unusual structure with multiple time jumps. Moreover, the story is told from the point of view of a first-person narrator, who at times imagines and narrates events she was not part of. Postmodern literature sometimes presents a fictional narrative of real historical events, which is also the case with Mother to Mother and the killing of Amy Biehl.
