The source “A tale of two minimum wages” presents information about the effects of raising the minimum wage.
The minimum wage varies across states
In the video, CNN’s Jon Sarlin shows that 39% of the US has a 7.25 dollars minimum wage, while 61% of the US has a higher minimum wage. Sarlin gives the example of Seattle, where the minimum wage has been 15 dollars an hour since 2019 (00:30-00:36), while the minimum wage in New Hampshire is still the federal minimum wage of 7.25 dollars an hour. This is because individual states are free to set a higher minimum wage than the federal level, but they cannot set a lower minimum wage than the federal level.
