Outer characterization

Patti Rooney is a main character in the short story “May the Best Man Win” by Kit de Waal. She is a white, blonde, 20-year- old woman. She works as a bartender in the pub The Carpenter’s Arms in Birmingham. Her boyfriend, Fitz, is black. They have a six-year-old son called Damien. Patti was born in a Catholic family, but was kicked out because of her relationship with a black man which resulted in an illegitimate child: “her mother had thrown her out for being a slut that had brought disgrace on her family and Catholics all over the world” (ll. 254-256).
