Summary

The short story “Let’s Go to the Videotape” by Fiona Maazel tells the story of Nick, who uploads videos of his 5-year-old son, Gus, on social media to fill in the gap left behind by his wife’s death.

Nick participates in a funny video contest where his entry is a video of Gus riding a bike for the first time and falling off. Since his wife’s death, Nick feels that he has no one to share his memories of Gus with. At first, Nick sends the video to his friends, who find it hilarious, and he then uploads it online where it is viewed many times. Gus is not pleased with his video being shared, but Nick overlooks the negative impact the video has on his son’s life.
