The speaker of the 2021 Inauguration Speech is Kamala Harris, who had just become the 49th vice president of the United States. Her election as vice president is a historic moment, as she is the United States’ first female vice president, as well as the first African-American and Asian-American to hold this position. 

In 2019, Harris announced her candidacy for president of the United States in the 2020 election. However, she withdrew her candidacy in December 2019 and announced her endorsement of Joe Biden the following spring. In the summer of 2020, she was chosen as Joe Biden’s running mate. Before she participated in the 2020 election, Harris had been the attorney general of California and a United States senator.
