The question of identity

In the article “I’m More Than An ‘Other’”, Meghan Markle speaks about the challenges brought on by her mixed heritage and how she created an identity beyond race, which includes her heritage.

Markle’s background created confusion around her identity: “my mixed heritage may have created a grey area surrounding my self-identification, keeping me with a foot on both sides of the fence” (ll. 240-243). This suggests that Markle found it difficult to feel like she belongs both in white and African-American culture.
