In 2016, Meghan Markle became the centre of international attention when the media began reporting on her relationship with Prince Harry of Great Britain.

Some of the reporting, however, was toxic – tabloids, including British ones, published news under sexist and racist headlines, and Markle and her family became the target of paparazzi and online trolls. This led to a public statement from Kensington Palace, which denounced the media and online harassment of Markle and her family and called for the couple’s privacy to be respected.
