Growing up

The autobiography Greetings from Bury Park by Sarfraz Manzoor explores the theme of growing up. Sarfraz seems to present aspects of his life as parts of a journey to self-discovery that eventually teaches him more about himself and the people in his life.

Sarfraz writes his autobiography from the point of view of an adult looking back on his childhood and his youth. Throughout the book, we find instance when Sarfraz contrasts what he felt then with what he feels now. For example, he examines his relationship with his father and mentions how often he used to reject Mohammed Manzoor’s views:
