Structure
The novel “Animal Farm” by George Orwell has an unusual plot structure with a number of twists. The first part of the story suggests that the animals ultimate goal is to take control of the farm away from Mr. Jones and end human oppression, so the readers might assume that the story will be focused on their attempts to do so.
However, the rebellion happens very early in the story and succeeds almost immediately, revealing that the story will have a different focus afterwards. From this point, the story is basically a downward spiral that shows Napoleon and the pigs taking more and more control of the farm, while the lives of the other animals become worse. Every time it seems that the animals will get some kind of success that will make their lives better, something happens to ruin it, or Napoleon does something to stop it.
