Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Bowles

Clara Phelps and Mrs. Bowles are the two friends of Mildred Montag in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. They sometimes come to visit Mildred to watch television together with her (Part 2, 56%f.).

Unlikeher friends, Mrs. Bowles is the mother of two children. She presents herself as a proud mother, even though she tells in passing that her relationship with her children is cold. She thinks it's "nice" that children look like their parents and that they are useful, because otherwise humanity would die out (Part 2, 64%). At home, however, she usually just sits her children in front of the television so that she can have her peace.
