Characters

Guy Montag, the hero of Ray Bradbury's dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451, is surrounded by a gallery of contrasting, quirky or endearing supporting characters, all with an interesting story to tell. His wife, Mildred, and her friends Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Bowles are well-adjusted and superficially happy citizens who live to watch television. Guy’s superior, Captain Beatty, is a conflicted intellectual. Clarisse McClellan is a young curious, empathetic, and independent outsider. Professor Faber is a person who loves books and who warns against the harmful development of society. Granger and his group have memorized many books and are therefore considered living books. The selfless and friendly academics hope for a better future.
