Summary

Kevin Love begins his 2018 essay “Everyone Is Going Through Something” by stating that he had a panic attack during a basketball game in November the previous year. He notes that the attack came out of nowhere, and that it transformed the way he thinks about his mental health.

He says that he has been uncomfortable talking about his inner life for most of his life, but that he has realized that this attitude is harmful. He also explains that he wants to share his thoughts about the issue to help other men and boys with similar problems. He notes that there are social expectations that men and boys do not talk about their feelings.

Love moves on to give a more detailed account of his sudden panic attack. He notes that it happened at a difficult time, as he was sleeping badly and having family issues on top of his stressful professional life. He describes how he felt unusually exhausted, and at halftime he experienced a range of physical symptoms.
