Style of language

If you are working with Kevin Love’s essay “Everyone Is Going Through Something” as part of the STX English A exam assignment from 3rd of December, 2019, you are specifically asked to analyze the style of the language in lines 32-42.

The style of language in this section of the text is fairly informal. We especially see this through Kevin Love’s use of colloquial, everyday expressions such as “it all hit the fan” (l. 32) or “I was freaking out” (l. 36). He also uses contractions such as “couldn’t” (l. 37) and occasionally interjects filler-words such as “like” (l. 37), which are both informal features that make the text sound more like spoken language.
