Discussion: The consequences of Living Apart Together
In the last part of the assignment, you have to discuss what the consequences of L.A.T. might be, taking your starting point in Text 1, “Couples that live apart...stay together”.

Text 1 is an article from The Times website, published on May 12, 2007, and written by Rosemary Bennett.
The article’s main argument is – as the heading indicates – that couples who chose to live apart together actually have more chances of making a relationship last longer.
Consequently, we can say that L.A.T. – which means being in a committed married/unmarried relationship without sharing the same home – has proven to contribute to couples’ longevity.
To support this main argument, the article uses the example of a couple who have been together for twenty years without actually living in the same home, Shirley Denny and Peter Lawrence (p. 1, l. 1).
