Account: President Obama's plan

“America’s Clean Power Plan” is a strategy which President Barack Obama came up with in 2015. The main purpose of the plan is to cut down pollution by reducing the carbon emissions of power plants. In what follows, we will outline President Obama’s plan by discussing his arguments and the reasons behind the plan. The main arguments are the following:

  • Reducing carbon pollution
  • Reducing health and environmental issues
  • Increasing awareness on global warming
  • Making America the number one leader in fighting global warming

Reducing carbon pollution

As we have already seen, the main purpose of the Clean Power Plan is reducing carbon pollution.

Source 1 (“Climate Change and President Obama’s Action Plan”) states that “power plants are the single biggest source of harmful carbon pollution that contributes to climate change”.

Reducing health and environmental issues

Source 1 (“Climate Change and President Obama’s Action Plan”) presents the fact that “asthma rates have more than doubled” over the last three decades and that this health issue affects increasingly more American citizens.

Increasing awareness on global warming

One of the purposes of the Clean Power Plan is to increase awareness on global warming. According to Source 2 (“Americans Show Low Levels of Concern on Global Warming”), the American population does not seem to worry about climate change.

Making America the number one leader in fighting global warming

Source 3 (“GOP presidential candidates pounce on climate plan”) presents another purpose of the Clean Power Plan: to make America the number one leader in fighting global warming. If the plan works, then President Obama will become more credible, as one of the most important promises of his first presidential campaign was to fight global warming:
