Summary

“The truth about male friendship” by Sarfraz Manzoor presents the story of Sarfraz Manzoor’s 25-years-friendship with banker Amolak. When Sarfraz was 22, he wrote a letter to his friend Amolak informing him that their friendship should stop, because Amolak had just gotten a better-paid job at a bank, while Sarfraz had a low-paid job as an admin. From the perspective of 22-years old Sarfraz the income differences would have ruined their friendship. However, Amolak ignored the letter, and their friendship continued as usual. Sarfraz and Amolak had been friends since they were 16-years old and joined the same college. Their friendship was based on shared music tastes and shared perspectives on marriage and money. Both of them developed a passion for American singer Bruce Springsteen, both of them were against the idea of traditional arranged marriages, and both of them wanted to make more money than their working-class parents.
