Summary

“The Osage Orange Tree” by William Stafford tells the story of a final year high school student who is on his first day of school in a new town, and he notices a girl in a blue dress who is not mixing with other groups, just like him. After school, he goes looking for clients to buy newspapers, as he works as a delivery boy. At the edge of the town, close to a tree, he meets the girl in the blue dress, Evangeline. The girl takes one of his papers and promises to talk to her father about subscribing to it.

The next day, the two of them do not talk at school but after school, they meet next to the same tree. The girl tells the boy that her father will buy the paper and asks him to deliver it at the tree, next to the bridge leading to her house...
