Narrator and point of view

The short story “The Night of the Full Moon” by K. S. Duggal is a third-person narration. The storyteller is outside the action and has limited knowledge of the events: “No one believed that Malan and Minnie were mother and daughter: they looked like sisters.” (p. 26, ll. 16-17)

The narrator confines himself/herself to the point of view of the main character, Malan: “Malan asked herself why she sat alone in the courtyard under the light of the full moon. Was she expecting someone?” (p. 30, ll. 2-4)

As a result, the narrator gives readers’ access to the woman’s thoughts and memories. However, this implies that readers uncover the plot as it unfolds and as Malan experiences it.
