Analysis

The analysis of the short story “Sunday in the Park” by Bel Kaufman shows that it follows a chronological plot structure. The narrative centers on the conflict between the characters.

The main characters are the woman and Morton. Another important character is the man on the bench, who challenges Morton to a fight.

The physical setting is a park. The events take place on a Sunday afternoon. The social setting explores class differences and gender stereotypes.

The story is told by a third-person narrator. The narrator has insight into the thoughts and feelings of the woman, whose perspective we follow.

The language is formal. The gap in the characters’ social status is highlighted through their dialogue.
