Sender

The sender of the speech is Hilary Mantel, an English writer who is mostly known for her historical fiction. Mantel has been awarded the Booker Prize twice in her life – something which establishes her authority as an author.

In 2013, Mantel made a speech on royalty – particularly on royal women – at the British Museum, at the first London Review of Books lecture of the year. Her main focus is Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, whom she compares to a soulless mannequin constructed only for the sake of perpetuating the monarchy. Her speech was highly criticised by part of the media – including by Prime Minister David Cameron – but Mantel is still defended by others.
