Inner composition

The poem is quite complex in terms of inner composition. As a rule, you will notice that the first four lines of each stanza announce the topic while the following six continue to detail this topic.

Consequently, we can say that stanza 1 is about the nature of the urn, the poet giving it human traits. Stanza 2 is about legends and gods and the pursuit of young women. Stanza 3 is about unconsumed love and art. Stanza 4 is about sacrificial rituals and community. Stanza 5 returns to the urn and its wisdom.
