Summary

“Lamb to the Slaughter” by Roald Dahl tells the story of Mary Maloney, the wife of detective Patrick Maloney, who waits for her husband to come home from work. She is six months pregnant and joyfully waits for her husband every day to return, as she is alone the rest of the day. When Patrick comes home, Mary prepares him a drink, as usual. Patrick seems distant and cold, but Mary simply assumes that he has had a difficult day at work and that he is tired. However, this particular evening, Patrick drinks more than usual and Mary is sure that something must be wrong. When Patrick decides that he needs to confess something, Mary is taken by surprise.
