Characters

"Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl only features a handful of characters - Mary Maloney, her husband Patrick, as well as number of people whom Mary interacts with following the murder of her husband.

Mary Maloney is clearly the main character of the story, as the plot focuses on her impulsive murder of her husband, as well as her very efficient and cunning efforts to cover up the deed.

Patrick, Mary's husband, is not characterized in as much detail. We mainly know that he returns home from work with bad news, and it is implied that he tells Mary that he has met someone else and is going to leave her.

Finally, the policemen led by Sergeant Jack Noonan form a collective character. They act kindly towards Mary, but are not particularly smart, as she seems to have them completely fooled by the end.
