Summary
“In Another Country” by Ernest Hemingway tells the story of an unnamed American soldier, who is in a hospital in Milan every afternoon following a medical recuperation treatment for his leg and knee. The doctor at the hospital is very confident that the new machines will help mend the soldier’s wounds and even displays pictures of people being cured with their help.
During the medical sessions, he meets and befriends some local soldiers — a major with a tiny hand, a young man who wants to become a lawyer, one who wants to become a soldier, one who wants to be a painter, and one who has a damaged nose, always wearing a scarf.
