Title

The title of the short story - “Bangana” - is the Pashtu word describing a buzzing wasp. Consequently, it refers to the way the locals in Afghanistan perceive the surveillance drones. However, except for those army persons who worked or work in Afghanistan, most readers will not understand the title at first. But, after reading the story, it becomes clear that the title is meant to outline the story is about the protagonist’s work and that it deals with themes related to war: how modern warfare affects people’s lives on both sides of the conflict.
