Legalising Drugs | HTX Engelsk A | Marts 2013
This study guide will help you focus on the topic of legalising drugs. We will show you examples from four texts that cover the topic and focus on the most significant elements that will be relevant for a discussion about legalising drugs. In these notes, we will focus on outlines, the pros and cons of legalising drugs, and the prospect of a world in the future in which all drugs have been fully legalised.
Exam question
This study guide is based on the written exam in English A on HTX from March 2013:
Presentation of the topic
In the majority of the world’s countries, the act of selling, buying and consuming drugs is illegal. Exceptions include some countries (like the Netherlands) or US states that allow for the consumption of marijuana, either for recreational or medical purposes. Because the war on drugs (particularly in the US) has been so costly and ineffective, there are more and more voices that suggest legalising some or all drugs might be a better approach. Those against legalising drugs believe that this measure will only create more drug addicts. Those who are for legalising drugs claim that if they are legal the government will be able to regulate the drugs market and to help addicts to manage their addiction safely and to receive the help they need.
