The speaker of the presidential announcement speech is businessman Donald Trump. At the time, he was 69 years old and known mostly for his real-estate and construction business and for starring in the reality TV show The Apprentice.

Although he was a declared Republican in 2015, he was not a politician at the time, something which he also mentions in his speech and which was a key factor of his campaign: “I've been on the circuit making speeches, and I hear my fellow Republicans. And they're wonderful people. I like them.” (ll. 97-98); “Number two, I'm a private company, so nobody knows what I'm worth.” (l. 419)

Trump also ran for president in 2000 trying to obtain the nomination of a minor party, the Reform Party, but subsequently gave up the race. Over the years, Trump was also part of the Democratic Party and the Republican Party during various periods and even became an independent for a short time before finally returning to the Republican Party. This change of his political affiliation shows inconsistency in his political views.
