The speaker of this inaugural address is US President Donald Trump. A business man concerned with politics, Trump ran for President as a Republican nominee in 2016.

At the time of the speech, Trump was known as a controversial businessman and TV personality who appealed to people’s dissatisfaction with American politics and won the elections using an outsider rhetoric. This is why the speaker reminds the audience that he is not part of the establishment or the political class: “Politicians prospered, but the jobs left, and the factories closed. The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country.” (ll. 20-21)

In the speech, Donald Trump tries to construct a positive, legitimate image of himself, as the outsider who will change American politics and who will give Americans their prosperity back: “I will fight for you with every breath in my body, and I will never, ever let you down.” (ll. 77-78); “We will bring back our jobs. We will bring back our borders. We will bring back our wealth. And we will bring back our dreams.” (ll. 79-80)
