Analysis

The analysis of the short story “Celia Behind Me” by Isabel Huggan shows that it follows a linear, chronological plot structure. There are several elements of foreshadowing, as well as an internal conflict which turns into an external conflict and remains unresolved.

The main characters in the story are Celia and Elizabeth, who is also the narrator. They share several similarities, however, Elizabeth appears to hate Celia.

The physical setting is a town in Canada. The social setting explores violence in the family.

The story is told from the point of view of a first-person narrator. She recounts an experience from her childhood, which had a strong impact on her.

The language is neutral. The words used in the dialogue give the story a realistic feel, as they point to the way children usually talk. However, the language in the narration shows the narrator’s point of view as an adult.
