Literary perspective

The short story “Boys and Girls” by Alice Munro is an example of the Southern Ontario Gothic genre, which is a subgenre of the Gothic novel genre and a feature of Canadian literature. This genre focuses on social conditions such as race, gender, religion, in the context of the Southern Ontario region. It has several similarities with the Southern Gothic of American writers such as William Faulkner.
