The title of the short story, “Be Here Now” captures readers’ attention because it sounds intriguing and does not disclose much about the plot. However, it does convey the idea that it is important to be present.
Reading the story, the significance of the title is revealed through the main character, who is also the narrator, as he seems to be struggling to live in the present. While he is unpacking things and moving into a new house with his fiancée, the narrator thinks about his last work assignment, recalls memories from his childhood involving his grandparents and father, or surfs the internet and social media. His work makes him depressed because he shoots photos in war zones, his memories make him nostalgic, and he has a negative perspective on the media and on social media.
