Texts 1 and 2

Text 1 mentions that trade agreements have traditionally improved productivity and expanded trade, as well as increasing the size of the American economy, implying that this might create more jobs for workers. By contrast, Donald Trump’s policies which are against trade agreements might lead to workers being less productive or finding there are fewer jobs available.

Text 2 does not focus on workers, but it mentions that manufacturing costs will increases as a result of Trump’s tariffs. This might lead to companies cutting workers’ wages to recover their losses, or it might force manufacturers to downsize their business which would require fewer workers.

The title of the video, “Here's How Many Jobs America Could Lose Because of the Trump Tariffs”, also implies that there will be fewer jobs available in the US. In the video, this is suggested when the anchor talks about how trade tensions with China, Mexico, and Canada have led to an oversupply of beef and pork in the US because these countries are the largest importers of these US goods. Also, they are matching Trump’s administrations’ tariffs with tariffs of their own. This suggests that workers in the agricultural and meet processing industries might end up losing their jobs or earning a smaller income.
