Julian Castro, a presidential candidate, identifies as “(…) a Mexican-American, Latino, Chicano” (00:02-00:05). Mexican-American means that he identifies with both his Mexican descent and with the fact that he is a citizen of the US. The term “Chicano”, used by Mexican-Americans, refers to both a birthplace (Mexico) and to an attitude of pride in one’s cultural and ethnic heritage.
