Suzanne Collins (b. 1962) is an American writer of novels and television scripts. Her first published fiction book was the first novel of The Underland Chronicles, a fantasy series for children. In 2008, Collins published the first novel of her second series, The Hunger Games, which is the work she is best known for. Collins was named one of Time magazine’s most influential people of 2010, and in 2012 she became the best-selling author on Amazon’s ebook platform, Kindle. 

The novel The Hunger Games is the first part of a trilogy followed by Catching Fire (2009) and Mockingjay (2010). The story is told from the perspective of its teenage main character, Katniss Everdeen and presents a dystopian, post-apocalyptic society in which children have to fight each other on live television. The Hunger Games was well-received by critics and readers alike. A movie adaptation was released in 2012, directed by Garry Ross. Collins was involved in the co-writing of the script.
