Analysis

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is structured into five acts. Despite being a tragedy, the play can be considered a comedy up until Act 3, Scene 1 when Mercutio dies and Romeo kills Tybalt, causing him to be separated from Juliet. The structure of the play can be analyzed in detail using Freytag’s pyramid. Among other things, this reveals that the play’s climax is when the lovers say goodbye after their wedding night. 

The two central characters of the play are Romeo and Juliet. They both embody the fatal flaw of being too impulsive and controlled by their passions, and this leads to their tragic suicides.
