Presentation of the topic

Copyright violation refers to all activities which involve using another creator’s work (music, films, texts, images, etc.) without their permission. In the modern age, this also implies illegal downloading of files without permission or paying fees.

The topic is highly debated, with some arguing that copyright law is either too weak to protect creators and their work, or too absurd for the consumers, limiting their access to products and implicitly culture.

The three texts you have to analyse in this exam explore both sides of the debate. Text 1 focuses on the issue of illegal downloading and copyright in the entertainment industry. Text 2 further debates the issues in text 1 through comments of users. Text 3 discusses copyright violations in literature, particularly in poetry.
