Metaphors

A couple of metaphorical expressions are also used in the text. For instance, the body of Campbell’s father is associated with a growing plant: “the body sprouting from the vest” (l. 132). Also, instead of saying children are sometimes trouble-makers, the narrator directly replaces the term with “trouble”: “Some kids are trouble for just a term or two. Campbell had been trouble since nursery school…” (ll. 9-10)
