Analysis

The analysis of the short story “The Drover’s Wife” by Henry Lawson shows that it follows a linear, chronological plot structure. The narrative presents an event in the life of a drover’s wife. There are also several flashbacks, in which she remembers past events.

The main character in the story is the drover’s wife. She lives alone in the outback with her four children and does her best to provide for them and protect them.

The physical setting is the Australian outback sometime in the 19th century. The social setting touches on gender issues.

The story is told from the point of view of a third-person narrator. The narrator has insight into the thoughts and feelings of the main character.

The language is neutral. There are many Australian words in the story, which give it a local color.
