Bend it like Beckham:
This short story is about an Indian girl called Jesminder. She lives in England together with her mother, father and her older sister, Pinky. They live a quite normal life, but there are two things that differs them from many other Englishmen.
The first, thing is that they are from India, and therefore they have another culture. Another thing is that their religion means very much to them and together with their religion the family's well being is the core of Jesminder's family's every day life.
Jesminder is living a quite normal life, with lots of friends and with a passion for soccer. Many of her afternoons is spend down in the park with here friends playing soccer. Suddenly one day her mother said that it was enough with all that soccer, and now she had to learn how a real Indian woman lived. She had to learn to cook and behave like a normal woman so she could get a nice man and marry him. At the same time Jesminder meets an English girl called Jules. Jules is playing soccer on a girls-only team, and she persuades Jesminder to come and tryout for her team. This puts Jesminder in a dilemma because she really wants to play soccer, but at the same time she also wants to help with Pinky's upcoming wedding. Another problem is that her mom won't let her play because she thinks it's disgusting that girls are running around and touching each other while they only wear shorts and t-shirts.
