Write a paper (700-1000 words) in which you answer the following questions. Answer the questions separately.

Give an account of the issue as it is presented in texts 1 and 2.
How does the author of text 3 use her personal experiences in her argumentation? Illustrate your answer with examples from the text.
Taking your starting point in one of the texts, discuss how terminally ill patients should be helped.

Pathos and personal experience

Vicki Woods' primary mode of appeal is that of pathos. In the entire text she appeals to the readers' emotions one way or other. She uses colloquial language, humour and drags on her personal experiences.

In fact, the article opens with her own personal experience in that she retells a conversation she has had with a friend who brought up the subject. The conversation is what subsequently has made her ponder assisted suicide.

She also ends the article with a real case related to another friend's mother who had died 10 years previously. So the article as a whole is framed by the author's own personal experience.
