Topic of the text

The topic of the text is the division in American society between the African- American population and the rest of the Americans. For years, there has been a strong debate in the USA regarding the gap between the way African-Americans and white Americans live. Even though slavery was abolished a long time ago and the African-Americans have the same universal rights as the rest of the American population, most African-Americans are still treated like second class citizens and subject to discrimination in society. They are the ones who, statistically, struggle more with economic difficulties and high criminality rates. LeAlan Jones’ text summarizes these points in a compelling manner and advocates for more unity in the American society.
