Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968) was a prominent leader of the civil rights movement, becoming one of its main spokespeople.

A Baptist minister, King always advocated for fighting for civil rights through non-violent means such as marches, sit-ins, or civil disobedience, reflecting his Christian values. He became a leader of the movement after he successfully led the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955.

King helped to organize some of the most important campaigns and marches of the civil rights movement including the March on Washington, the Birmingham campaign, and the Selma to Montgomery marches.

He was the founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), an organization which was meant to gain the support of Southern churches and unite them to promote the civil rights movement.
