Presentation of the topic
Binge drinking is an expression used to describe the consumption of an excessive amount of alcohol over a short period of time. The texts in your assignment focus on the effects of binge drinking on young people and teenagers. Drinking alcohol and getting drunk is considered socially acceptable for adults. While underage people are not legally allowed to drink, binge drinking is still a common habit among many youngsters because it is usually associated with being cool and independent. This perspective on binge drinking is also promoted by alcohol advertisements which depict drinking as an enjoyable and desirable experience.
However, studies show that alcohol consumption can have severe long-term effects: it can lead to alcoholism, brain damage, and other medical conditions. Under these circumstances, there are many voices that claim the commercialisation of alcohol should be more strictly regulated.
